The Trevor Project Donation Postcard (Spec Ad)

Writing a donation postcard for The Trevor Project—a nonprofit suicide prevention organization that offers crisis support and advocacy for young LGBTQ+ people—to raise awareness and funds.

Side 1:

Side 2:

Goals:

To ask for donations and raise awareness about harmful conversion therapy practices that still harm many LGBTQ+ youth every year.

Audience & Tone:

Audiences for this postcard include Trevor donors and allies of all ages, including those who are tech-savvy and those who prefer to make direct mail donations.

Trevor typically employs a more light-hearted, positive tone when communicating with young LGBTQ+ youth, but adopts a more serious tone when speaking directly to allies and supporters about major issues affecting queer youth—which is what I did here.

Solution:

For this project, I incorporated some of The Trevor Project’s own research on conversion therapy and the long-lasting emotional trauma on LGBTQ+ youth—an emotional plea to encourage donors to take a stand with Trevor through their financial contributions. I provided three different ways to make a donation to be inclusive of all supporters who may or may not have access to (or comfort with) technology.
